BSL For Events – Half Day Course
Designed to widen access to the arts and support the development of arts professionals and practitioners, Serendipity are hosting a half day training course covering the fundamentals of BSL for events and front of house.
This course will give front of house and event staff the opportunity to develop the tools they need to engage and support patrons using BSL.
This training course is fun, dynamic and practical, and will be delivered by experienced trainers. The course will include:
– Understanding deaf access
– Fingerspelling alphabet and numbers
– Theatre-specific signs
– Basic greetings and questions
Plus an opportunity for question and answers.

Donna Ruane RSLI:
Donna is Co-Director of Theatresign Training Ltd and a qualified Interpreter, Assessor and IV. The Senior Interpreter for Theatresign, she has interpreted hundreds of shows in the West End and UK tours for the past 20 years. 2019 saw Donna teaching Take That to sign one of their hits which they went on to perform throughout their Odyssey tour. She is also an experienced theatre interpreting and Deaf Awareness trainer with a huge passion for BSL access to the arts.
Alexandra Shaw RSLT:
Alexandra is Co-Director of Theatresign Training Ltd, and a qualified Teacher, Translator and Assessor. As part of her role, she mentors, assesses and trains theatre interpreters, and is also an experienced Deaf Awareness Trainer and British Sign Language teacher. An avid lover of theatre, she has watched over 200 shows and visited countless venues all over the UK as part of her commitment to ensuring high quality access.
